Herbal tea is made from plants, using not just the leaves, but the flowers, roots, bark and seeds.  Herbal tea blends the flavors of different spices around the world. The herbal tea can b the perfect, natural substitute for taking pills and cough medicine. It helps one to relax or sleep, it’s also good for headache including migraine.

There are many ways and variations of making herbal tea; every person uses different herbs as per their taste. But the most common herbs used are ginger, cardamom, cloves, mint, basil, pepper, cinnamon, fennel seeds, rose petals and honey.

The herbs used in tea depend on the medicinal value and the climatic condition of that area. Some of the herbs like ginger, cloves will produce lot of heat n the body whereas other herbs like mint, tulsi (holy basil), and rose petals are cooling. We can have it hot or cold as we wish. This should be made without milk.

I have made this herbal tea with the herbs, which avoids cold, rectifies blocked nose, headache and indigestion. Let us move on to the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Cloves – 3 nos
  • Cinnamon – 1” inch bark
  • Cardamom – 2 nos
  • Ginger – 1” inch
  • Star Anise – 1 no
  • Sugar / Honey – 2 tsp
  • Tea powder – ¼ tsp
  • Water – 1 ¾ cup

Preparation:

  • Boil the water in a sauce pan.
  • Put cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, star anise, sugar to the water.
  • Cover with the lid and let it boil for 5 mins.
  • Turn of the stove and put the tea powder to the water.
  • Drain it immediately in a minute.

Serve hot, warm or cold.
