Butter Beans Kulambu / Lima Beans curry

Already I have shared a Butter Beans poriyal / Lima Beans curry and now it’s curry using butter beans. Butter beans curry or poriyal is usually liked by kids, because of its buttery texture. But when you pair them with steamed rice, increase little of the spice level with coconut masala, it tastes yum. Let me share the recipe…

Ingredients:

  • Butter Beans / Lima Beans – 2 handful
  • Onion – 1 no
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp + ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
  • Coconut pieces – 3 tbsp
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder – ¾ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp or to taste
  • Oil – 1 ½ tbsp

Preparation:

  • Peel and finely chop the onions. Keep it aside.
  • Take coconut pieces and a tbsp of cumin seeds, grind it to a fine paste by adding little water and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  • Add the chopped onions, cook until they turn golden brown in color.
  • Add the ground coconut masala followed by turmeric powder, chilli powder and coriander powder, cook for few mins or until the raw smell of the masala goes off.
  • Add the lima beans / butter beans followed by salt, pour a cup of water, bring to boil, cover and cook for 3 whistles.
  • Remove the lid when the pressure releases, transfer it to a bowl.

Serve hot with steamed rice and pappad or appalam.

French Beans Stir-Fry / Beans Poriyal

French Beans Stir-Fry / Beans Poriyal

Ingredients:

  • French Beans – 250 gm
  • Onion – 1 no (medium sized)
  • Green chilies – 2 nos
  • Grated coconut – 1 ½ tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Cumin powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 3 tsp

Preparation:

  • Remove the thread along the sides and finely chop the french beans.
  • Peel and finely chop the onion and green chili.
  • Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard, split blackgram and curry leaves. Wait till they crackle.
  • Add in the onions and green chilies. Cook till they turn transparent.
  • Add in the french beans followed by salt, turmeric and cumin powder. Cook till the raw smell goes off.
  • Pour in a cup of water, bring it to boil and cover with the lid.
  • Remove the lid when the french beans are cooked (turns to olive green color).
  • Add in the grated coconut and saute them for few mins, till the coconut gets blend with the beans and it becomes dry.

Serve hot with steamed rice and curry.

Ingredients:

  • French beans – ½ kg
  • Coconut(shredded)  – 2 tbsp
  • Big onion – 1 no
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Split Blackgram – ½ tsp
  • Chilli powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder – ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves – a strand
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 1 tbsp

Preparation:

  • Wash the beans and chop them to small pieces.
  • Finely chop the onions.
  • Heat oil in kadai.
  • Add mustard, blackgram and wait till it crackle. Then add curry leaves.
  • Put onion to it and fry them till they become transclusent.
  • Put beans and fry them.
  • Put chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, coriander powder and fry it.
  • Put the stove in sim and stir every now and then. Otherwise it would burnt.
  • When its about to cooked add coconut and continue stirring for 5 mins.

Serve hot with rice and chapathi.
