Thuvaiyal is another version of Chuntey, which is thick compared to chuntey and ground coarsely compared to chuntey. Coconut Thuvaiyal / thengai Thuvaiyal

Ingredients:

  • Coconut – 100 gm
  • Roasted gram / Pottukadalai / Porikadalai – 200 gm
  • Green chilies – 3 nos
  • Garlic – 3 cloves
  • Salt to taste

Preparation:

  • Chop coconut to small pieces or grate the coconut.
  • In a blender, take coconut pieces, roasted channa gram, green chilies, garlic and grind them to coarse paste by adding water little by little.
  • Add in salt as required and grind for few seconds.
  • Transfer it to a bowl.

Serve with warm porridge or rasam rice.

Coconut Mint Chutney

Coconut mint chutney is nothing but the coconut chutney, which is prepared with the combination of a handful of mint leaves. This chutney can also be prepared in the same procedure with coriander or curry leaves instead of mint leaves as per the flavor you need.

Ingredients:

  • Shredded or Small pieces of Coconut – 1 cup
  • Mint leaves – a handful
  • Tamarind – little (for taste)
  • Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Roasted gram – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard – ¼ tsp
  • Split blackgram – ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves – a strand
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Preparation:

  • Take Coconut, mint leaves, tamarind, salt, roasted gram, garlic in a mixer and grind to a smooth paste by adding water.
  • Now transfer it to a bowl.
  • Heat oil in a tadka or pan, add in mustard, blackgram and curry leaves. Wait till it crackle.
  • Now pour it to the bowl. Give a stir while serving.

Serve hot with Idli, Vada, dosa, upma and so on.

Coconut chutney

Coconut chutney is very common among all the chutneys and is prepared mostly by everyone. This coconut chutney can be prepared in two versions – with green chilies and with red chilies.

Ingredients:

  •          Coconut – ½ no (If Desigated Coconut –  1 cup)
  •          Green chillies – 2 nos or Red chillies – 5 nos
  •          Roasted gram – 1 tbsp
  •          Tamarind – little for taste
  •          Garlic – 2 cloves
  •           Mustard – ½ tsp
  •          Split Blackgram – ½ tsp
  •          Salt

Preparation:

  •          Cut the coconut into small pieces or grate the coconut with coconut shredder.
  •          Take coconut, tamarind, salt, green chillies or red chillies, roasted gram, tamarind and garlic in a mixer and grind it to a paste.
  •          Heat oil in tadka, add in mustard, black gram, curry leaves. Wait till it crackle.
  •          Transfer coconut  paste to a bowl and pour the seasoning to it.

Serve with Idli, dosa, vada, uppma and so on. We can also store it for a day in refrigerator.
