Food Hunt – Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC)

Standard

Recently I have been invited for an event named, “Food Hunt” – it was a fabulous meet sponsored by #MPOC (Malaysian Palm Oil Council). The day was very lovely, we were made to run from restaurant to restaurant for a game with a team of 4, with my fellow foodie friends.

Actually the event was to create awareness about the usage of Palm oil, I could remember very well that my grandma uses palm oil for frying when I was child, but after the sunflower and many other oils it was my mom who introduced the sunflower and now it’s me who uses sunflower, olive oil, sesame oil, coconut oil and mustard oil based on the dish. I hope not only with me but it happens with most of us nowadays, we got forget the PALM OIL, which was used in early days. This event was organized by #MOPC to create awareness about palm oil – how to use them, how many times to use them, how healthy are they, how they are prepared. Very informative event.

About palm oil: They have high smoke point and so they can be reused for almost 3 to 4 times. Very good source for deep frying, use palm oil and make your deep frying dishes healthy. It is cheaper compared to the other oils. They don’t have extra flavor, aroma and so the dishes you prepare have their own taste. Palm oil is derived from the Palm fruit and this palm oil freezes below 20 degree. Also the major advantage of using palm oil is they contain very little cholesterol.

About the event: The event happened at MAINLAND CHINA, we were divided to groups of 4. There was 4 groups and first section – we were blindfolded and given a dish. The concept this section was every one of us in team was blindfolded and made to taste the food, after tasting we were asked to write the ingredients, used in the dish, happened at OH CALCUTTA. The second section – we were given puzzle to find out the restaurant and then we started running to the restaurant, there we were given ingredients for salads and was asked to prepare salad, happened at HOPPIPOLA. The third section – was having at EMPIRE HOTEL and then got the clue for the fourth section. The fourth section – a quiz, based on the Palm Oil, this happened at RUSSH. After the completion we reached Mainland china, then we played the magnetic dart, this followed by selfie with our team with colorful probs.

We had lunch at MainLand China, there huge spread of dishes in the buffet both for veg and non-veg. After lunch we were handed a goodie bag as token of love with the products prepared by palm oil.

Food Review – Skylit in Citrus Hotels, Cunningham Road, Bangalore

Standard

Got an invite for Skylit (roof top restaurant) of citrus hotel at Cunningham road on Saturday for Dinner. Skylit - Citrus Hotels Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - ZomatoThis time I am not struck in traffic, and so reached the place right on time. Skylit restaurant was at 5th floor of citrus hotel, when I got into the restaurant, felt like I was in ooty. Because of the weather, the sky drizzling with a soft and gentle breeze, also the music, lightings of the place was fantastic. Loved the place to the core and will say a perfect place for family hangover and a romantic dinner 😛

Coming to the food, there was a big spread in the buffet from starter till the desserts. When few of foodie friends arrived, we got seated in the table which was reserved for us. The manager of the hotel shared the information about the property, also he stated that they commonly serve 16 starters including both veg and non-veg and this was the highlight of skylit. One more interesting I found there was their CLEANSER – they serve cleanser after 3 dishes are served. The purpose of serving cleanser is to help people consume more food. Also we had a good time with loads of chat in the lovely weather with prefect food. Let me share about the food we had –

All the food we had was very yummy and perfectly good – these are must to try in their list – Crazy Bagha Crabs, Jalapeno Frittata and never forget the cleanser – a mix of cucumber, curd/yogurt.

Due to the fantastic weather and yummy food, I was focused on eating and forget to click the pictures of main course. A must to try for Bangaloreans.

Every time I would reach the place on time or would be little late due to Bangalore Traffic. But this time I was early to meetup as I don’t want to get struck in the traffic.

We got seated when few of friends came, we had munches like pappad, mathri, chutneys and gudpara with my all-time favorite Malai Lassi and Mango Lassi. The Lassi was awesome, I could feel the aroma of the saffron and the nuts when it was placed on the table.

Then comes the starters both veg and non-veg including Spicy Bhatti De Jhinglay (prawns), Amirstari mutton chaap, I felt the masala was little loaded for my taste buds, Tandoori murgh which was too good and then Fish fry – fish got melted in the mouth. In vegetarian I liked the satpura puff, layered puff served with their authentic chole masala.

Followed by the main course which includes the gravies likes chole masala, sarson ka saag, Butter chicken, Rara Ghosht, Keema Kaleji, Aloo wadi and few more which was accompanied with Indian Flat Breads like Amristari Kulcha, Makki ki roti, Pitti wali poori (stuffed poori), biryani and pulav.

Last but not the least – Dessert. We were completely full and thought of leaving the dessert, but when we got to see the dessert, all of us started digging it. We had Beetroot Halwa, phirni and one more forget the name.

Any Punjabi food lovers would visit the place @ The Pink Poppadam, Hyatt, and M.G. Road, Bangalore from 7.00 p.m till 11.00 p.m.

Thanks for the invite Hyatt – The Pink Poppadam.
