Black Jamun Mocktail / Navaar Palam Mocktail

Black jamun known as Navvar pazham or Navaapazham in tamil is a seasonal fruit packed with loads of health benefits. These are good source for diabetic patients, relieves stomach pain, diarrhea, good for digestion, and controls menustral disorder for women.

Recently we have been to Jungle Retreat, Masinagudi and there was a big jamun with loads of jamuns, thought of collecting it on the day we were about to leave, but unfortunately a bear ate most of the jamun which are easy to reach and the next morning I got to collect only the leftovers.

As it was farm fresh, it tastes divine to eat. But apart from eating stored few of them for developing recipes, and here comes my Black Jamun / Indian Blackplum / Navvar Pazham Mocktail. Let me share the recipe…

Jamun Fruit / Navvar Pazham Mocktail

Jamun Fruit / Navvar Pazham Mocktail

Ingredients:

  • Black Jamun – ½ kg
  • Granadine – 3 tbsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
  • Castor Sugar – 4 tsbp
  • Black salt – ¼ tsp
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Mint leaves – 2 sprigs

Preparation:

  • Wash and deseed the jamun fruit.
  • Take out the flesh and skin of the jamun, blend them well by adding little water.
  • Strain the juice, add in 2 tbsp of strained flesh to the juice.
  • Pour in the lemon juice, granadine and mix well.
  • Add in the castor sugar, black salt and salt, mix well.
  • Crush 3 to 4 mint leaves, add it to the juice.

Refrigerate and served chilled, by topping it with a small mint sprig.

Note: Granadine available in stores, will soon update the recipe, it’s nothing but similar to Pomegranate Squash.

 

 

Naaval Palam Juice / Indian Blackplum Lemonade

As already discussed about this Naaval palam or Naava Palam or Indian Blackplum fruit, it is a great coolant and a seasonal fruit found along the month of May to August. I have shared a juice recipe – Naaval Palam Juice/Indian Blackplum Juice, and now this time it’s a lemonade with Indian Blackplum.

This lemonade was too good, with sweet, lemony and little astringent taste. Once done store it in refrigerator or it would enhance bitter taste. Let us move on to the recipe…

Naaval Palam Juice / Indian Blackplum Lemonade

Naaval Palam Juice / Indian Blackplum Lemonade

Ingredients:

  • Naaval palam / Indian Blackplum – 15 nos
  • Lemon – 2 nos
  • Sugar – 4 tbsp
  • Mint leaves – 6 nos

Preparation:

  • Wash and chop the Indian blackplum by deseeding it.
  • Cut the lemon into two equal halves. Squeeze out the juice and keep it aside.
  • In a blender, take chopped Indian blackplum/Naaval palam with lemon juice, sugar and a cup of water and blend well to a smooth paste.
  • Add another two cups of water and blend well.
  • Strain the juice through filter, throw away the strained pulp.
  • Pour in another two cups of water to the lemonade and mix well.

Refrigerate and serve chilled by topping with mint leaves.

 

Naaval Pazham / Indian Blackplum Juice

Naaval Pazham which is commonly known as Nava Pazham in tamil, also called as Jamun Fruit and Balck Plum is a seasonal fruit and found during the month of June to August. This fruit is being sold along the streets corners during summer.

Coming to health benefits, it is rich in iron, minerals and acts as a coolant and induces digestion power. It is said to be good for diabetics and purification of blood. It has a strong purple color. Let us move on to the recipe…

Naaval Pazham / Indian Blackberry Juice

Ingredients:

  • Naaval Palam / Indian Blackberry – 15 nos
  • Lemon Juice – 1 tsp
  • Salt – ¼ tsp
  • Sugar or honey – as required
  • Water – as needed.

Preparation:

  • Wash Indian blackberry / Naaval palam and deseed it.
  • Take the chopped fruit, lemon juice, salt, sugar or honey in a blender and Blend it well to a smooth paste.
  • Strain to remove the pulps and add some more water if required.

Serve chilled with ice cubes.
