Irish Shepherd’s Pie – Minced Lamb Meat | Exotic Wednesday with Madraasi

Shepherd’s Pie is one such delicious and yum recipe from Irish Cuisine. As I have been sharing exotic recipes on wednesday’s, I love to go for this Shepherd’s Pie for this week. Shepherd’s pie is commonly prepared with minced beef, fish, lamb and chicken. My first attempt of shepherd pie with Minced meat, we all liked it to the core. Let me share the recipe…

Ingredients:

  • Minced meat (lamb) – 300 gms
  • Onions – 100 gms
  • Carrots – 50 gms
  • Lamb Stock – 1 cup
  • Worcester sauce – 1 ½ tbsp
  • Cheese – 100 gms
  • Boiled and mashed potatoes – 3 cups
  • Butter – 2 tbsp + 2 tbsp (for mashed potato and tempering)
  • Oregano – ¼ tsp
  • Rosemary – ½ tsp
  • Chilli powder – 1 ¼ tsp
  • Salt to taste

Making of Shepherd’s Pie –

Preparation:

  • Peel and finely chop the onions and carrots,
  • Mash the potatoes to a paste by adding salt.
  • Heat 2 tbsp of butter in a heavy bottomed vessel, add onions and cook for few mins.
  • Add the carrots, cook until they turn soft.
  • Add oregano, rosemary, chili powder, salt and cook until the raw smell goes off.
  • Add the minced meat, pour the Worcester sauce and lamb stock, cover and cook until the gravy thickens and the meat becomes soft.
  • Meanwhile preheat the microwave to 180-degree C.
  • Take ramekins or a baking tray, add a spoonful of minced meat to the bowl, layer it with a spoonful of mashed potato, level it with the spoon.
  • Top it with the grated cheese and bake for 10 10 15 mins at 180-degree C or until the cheese turns golden brown in color.
  • Remove the ramekins from the microwave.

Serve hot.

Minced Meat Samosa

Samosa is one of my favorite snack, usually during childhood days, when we go for movie I never miss to have samosa J I had few leftover Minced meat curry from my lunch, opened the refrigerator and got to see samosa patties and few pieces of boiled potatoes. Thought of combining these together for the samosa stuff with a tsp of Eastern Beef Ullarthu Masala for a punch to the samosa.

Samosa was too good, and perfect for a rainy tea time snack. It’s a must to try out for this Ramadan. Let me share the recipe…

Minced Meat Samosa

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  • Mash the potatoes (no lumps should be formed).
  • Heat the minced meat curry in a kadai, add in the mashed potatoes and cook in medium flame.
  • Sprinkle the Eastern Beef Ullarthu Masala, and cook until it becomes dry.
  • Remove from the fire and wait until it comes to room temperature.
  • Now take the samosa patty and stuff the minced meat+potato filling to the samosa.
  • Meanwhile heat a cup of oil in a kadai, gently drop in the samosa, cook until it both sides turn golden brown.
  • Drain the oil and transfer to a plate.

Serve hot. I have accompanied it with a cup of Masala chai and Hummus.

Minced Meat with Eastern Condiments – BEEF ULARTHU Masala

This is my 4th product review for Eastern Condiments. This time a good try with their BEEF ULARTHU Masala. I have come across this masala through my bestie, he use to tell that beef when prepared this masala is unbeatable in Kerala. But I haven’t tried out this, now it’s time for me to try out this recipe when I got a packet of this masala through Eastern Condiments for their product review.

But still now I haven’t handled beef at my kitchen and may be at future I could try it. So I have prepared this with Minced meat of Lamb/Goat. We all loved the taste, even the minced meat came out well soft and spongy, with attractive color and very good aroma. So guys give a try to this masala, which is worth for an awesome side dish for a perfect lunch. Now let us move on to the recipe…

Minced Meat - Eastern Beef Ularthu Masala

Minced Meat – Eastern Beef Ularthu Masala

Ingredients:

  • Minced meat – 500 gm
  • Eastern Beef Ularthu Masala – 2 tsp
  • Onions – 2 nos
  • Garlic clove – 6 nos
  • Ginger – 2 “ inch stick
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – a sprig
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Chili powder – 1 ½ tsp
  • Oil – 3 tsp

Preparation:

  • Peel and finely chop the onions.
  • Crush the ginger and garlic using pestle and mortar.
  • Pressure-cook minced meat along with a tsp of chili powder, turmeric powder, half the amount of crushed ginger and garlic in water for 3 whistles.
  • Open the lid, when the pressure subsides. Drain out the excess water from the meat and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a kadai, add in the mustard, cumin seeds and curry leaves. Wait till they crackle.
  • Add in the onions and leftover crushed ginger, garlic. Sprinkle ½ tsp of EASTERN Beef ularthu masala and cook till the onion turn golden brown in color.
  • Add in the minced meat followed by a 1 ½ tsp of EASTERN Beef Ularthu Masala and salt. Cook until the raw smell goes off by sprinkling a tbsp of water or until the minced meat turns dark brown in color.

Serve hot with steamed rice and any curry.
